Chamomile Growing Advice
Sowing Indoors
- Chamomile can be sown into pots, trays or module cells during early spring and covered with a thin layer of growing medium (very lightly) . Grow on the seedlings on a light windowsill, potting them into larger containers when they are big enough to handle. The seeds can be planted outside during late spring or early summer once they have been hardened off.
Sowing Outdoors
- Chamomile can be sown directly outdoors once the soil has warmed. Sow the seeds onto the surface of your desired planting location and don't cover - the seeds will need light to germinate.
Ongoing care and harvest
- Chamomile is very low maintenance, once established they are very tolerant of drought but will appreciate free draining conditions.
- Prune back the top third of the plants regularly to promote healthy growth.
- The flowers of Chamomile can be removed and used to make tea. This will also promote further flowering.
