Red-Veined Sorrel Growing Advice
Sowing Indoors
- Sorrel can be sown indoors, sowing into fine compost in trays, pots or multi-sowed into module trays, 12mm deep and covered lightly with growing medium. This can be sown throughout the year indoors, but to produce garden-ready plants, sow seeds in early spring and transplant outdoors once hardened off during late spring and early summer.
Sowing Outdoors
- Sorrel can be sown directly outdoors at a depth of 12m and covered lightly, once the soil has warmed and the risk of frost has passed. They can also be sown directly outside into containers at this point in the year. The plants will enjoy a sunny or lightly shaded position
Ongoing care and harvest
- Sorrel is a vigorous plant, be wary of sowing more plants than you will need.
- Although fully hardy, be sure that your Sorrel Plants are not waterlogged over winter.
- Sorrel is a perennial but it's usually best to sow each year for a supply of vigorous fresh young leaves.
